School supplies donated to Harmony Public School

Lynne Herr, the principal of Harmony Public School located on Harmony Road South, was at a conference where she was browsing the booths of vendors when she came across Laurie St-Julien’s business, Best Tools For Schools. Parents are able to get their children(s) school supplies kits online instead of running around from store to store.

Although Ms. Herr thought this was a really interesting idea but once she looked at the price list she knew it wouldn’t be a realistic option for her school.

“Ms. Herr said Harmony P.S. doesn’t even send home a school supply list because they know most of the parents of the 130 students at the kindergarten to Grade 8 school wouldn’t be able to afford to buy the stuff on it. About 75 per cent of the school population lives in local co-op housing developments, she said.”

“And many parents can’t get to places like dollar stores where school supplies are cheaper because they are located far from the area, she added. There are very few businesses in our neighbourhood,” Ms. Herr said.

“When parents buy kits online, they have the option of buying an additional kit to donate to a child in need at their school, Ms. St-Julien said. She knew this model wouldn’t work at Harmony so she tried to think of other ways to get supplies there.”

A partnership between a local private school in Toronto, will be able to chose to purchase an additional kit to send to Harmony P.S. in September. To date there have been about a dozen kits donated.

You will be asked for a five digit code. 

Enter:    00001(for a Junior Kit)   $28.00 or
             00002 (for a Senior Kit)   $35.00 (Taxes and delivery included)

In the space where you are asked to give a first name, enter 'donated'. Enter 'Harmony
PS' in last name space. Click on 'add another kit' to purchase more
kits & repeat. Or call 1-866-980-1133 for multiple kit orders and they will process your request as one order.

When you've purchased the amount of kits you wish to donate, you can
proceed to checkout where you may pay with a credit card.
