Durham Catholic Board Gets Update on All-Day Kindergarten!
Starting this coming September five schools in Durham will have All-Day Kindergarten, which was formally called Early Learning Program. The classes will be spread out over Durham Region one in each major community, according to Ryan Putnam, superintendent of business.
Mr. Putnam also said, “It’s going to take six years to roll out the program fully. It will have a very positive impact on the system, especially in September.” It was also revealed that they are currently working on an extended day program that would provide morning and afternoon daycare. When it starts it will be available to four and five year olds and later they may consider adding six and seven year olds to the program if space is available. The program will run on a “cost recovery basis, with a user fee approach,” Mr. Putnam said.
